Luana Lila Orlandi Polinesio, M.A. (LMU München):

Amazon Revisited: Decolonial Experiences in the Rainforest

Much has been said about the protection of the Amazon, but which solutions are already being implemented in the forest by people who live there? This is what Brazilian researcher Luana Lila Orlandi Polinesio is investigating. In her talk, she will discuss decolonial experiences which are promoted by Indigenous people, community leaders, young communicators, and researchers in the Brazilian Amazon. What are their visions and perspectives for the future of the region? What have they learned over time trying to realize innovative and decolonial thinking and projects? And what can we learn from their experiences?

Polinesio is a journalist with a master’s degree in social anthropology from the Amazonas Federal University. She lived for 9 years in the city of Manaus, one of the capitals of the Brazilian Amazon. In 2022 she was granted a German Chancellor Fellowship, from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, to develop a one-year project in Germany at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology at LMU with Professor Eveline Dürr.
