Healing in the Damage: Novel Perspectives on Human-Environment Entanglements

Hybrid International Symposium – June 5, 2025

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the international hybrid symposium “Healing in the Damage: Novel Perspectives on Human-Environment Entanglements”.

This symposium investigates ways of “healing” in the face of the dire consequences of climate change. While we understand the Anthropocene as a planetary crisis, raising concerns about human existence and the future habitability of the planet, we seek to go beyond notions of devastation and damage. Instead, we focus on practices that arise as response to such crises, seeking to heal disturbed, disrupted or otherwise harmed human-environment relations. Applying healing as an analytical lens, we contend that putting Indigenous and local perspectives at the centre of scholarly inquiries has the potential to generate innovative responses to climate change and to foster social transformation all at once.

With this symposium, we start the Reinhart Koselleck-Project on Planetary Healing: Transformation, (De)colonization and Climate Change conducted by the planetary healing group at LMU Munich.
